Magical Item: Faces of Drama

Hey everyone,

I was going through my archives, and I found this old magical item entry for Paizo’s RPG Superstar contest. I think this was my entry for the 2014 contest. I didn’t make it past the first round of crowd voting that year, but I still kind of like this item. The faces of drama mask is obviously patterned after the classic drama masks based on the Greek muses. I did an editing pass on the item and cleaned it up a bit, but I didn’t change anything mechanically.

The stat block below is for Pathfinder 1st Edition. However, if you are interested in Pathfinder 2nd Edition or D&D 5E stats, let me know, and I will look at converting it.

Faces of Drama

Aura faint enchantment; CL 1st

Slot head; Price 2,200 gp; Weight 1 lb.

Description

This finely crafted porcelain mask displays either the laughing face of comedy or the crying face of tragedy.  When showing the face of comedy, the mask grants the wearer a +2 competence bonus on Perform (comedy) checks. However, when it displays the face of tragedy, the mask grants a +2 competence bonus on Perform (act) checks instead. Once per day as a standard action, when displaying the face of comedy, the wearer may use hideous laughter (Will save DC 12, duration 1 round) on one target within 25 feet.  After using hideous laughter, the mask changes to show the face of tragedy.  Also, once per day as a standard action, when it displays the face of tragedy, the wearer can use lesser confusion (DC 12 Will save, 1 round duration) on one target within 25 feet.  After using lesser confusion, the mask changes to display the face of comedy.
